📺️ Tubi Scores Major Win for Free, Ad-Supported TV
Most of the Super Bowl LIX postmortem focused on:
With a 40-22 loss, the Kansas City Chiefs “hurt their legacy” with a second blowout loss (they’ve still won three since 2020 and made three consecutive Super Bowls).
The 127.7 million viewers broke an all-time record for Super Bowl viewership.
Part of the reason for the record viewership: FOX simulcast the game on free streaming app Tubi.
FOX acquired Tubi for $440 million in 2020. It’s part of the free ad-supported television category (FAST). But it normally features limited sports.
The title of our Tubi review calls it a “free Netflix alternative.” Yet it proved remarkably different than the streaming giant on Super Bowl Sunday.
Netflix has struggled with latency and performance issues during its foray into live sports (although it already has improved).
Incredibly, Tubi measured the best lag time of any product.
Tubi: 26 seconds
NFL+ (mobile app only): 51 seconds
Hulu + Live TV: 62 seconds
DirecTV Stream: 63 seconds
Sling: 64 seconds
YouTube TV: 67 seconds
Fubo: 78 seconds
Score this one a win for free streaming TV, which Clark loves.
📊 Stat of the Day
