⚙ Most Reliable Vehicles Based on Unexpected Repairs
After years of sharp increases, auto insurance premiums are finally starting to moderate. But the cost of auto repairs continues to increase.
As such, CARFAX looked at data for models from 2019 to 2023 to determine the most reliable. The findings included a top 3 in three categories, each of which featured less than a 4% likelihood of unexpected repairs.
Here are the top 3 in each category.
CARS
Kia Rio
Mitsubishi Mirage G4
Toyota Camry
This group features “an estimated likelihood of unexpected repairs of roughly 2%, less than half the segment average of 5.5%.”
SUVs
Honda CR-V
Kia Sportage
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
This group features “an estimated likelihood of unexpected repairs under 2.5%, well below the segment average of 7.8%.”
TRUCKS
Ford Ranger
Nissan Frontier
Toyota Tacoma
This group features “an estimated likelihood of unexpected repairs under 4%, well below the segment average of 9.1%.”
As you can tell, smaller, “less complex” vehicles lead to fewer unexpected repairs. But there are a few SUVs clearly more reliable than the average car and even a few trucks barely more reliable than the average car.
📊 Stat of the Day
🚘 11.4%: Share of 3-year-old vehicles available for less than $20,000. Vehicles of that age are up 38.2% in seven years, and the average 3-year-old vehicle now costs $32,000. Some models are up big (Hyundai Elantra: +56%, Kia Sportage: +50%, Toyota Camry: +47%). The Tesla Model X (-17%) fell $12,865.
