🚧 Construction Begins For the Costco Apartments

If you’ve ever wanted to live at a Costco, your dream will soon be possible … pretty much.

A Southern California neighborhood is building 800 affordable apartment units with a rooftop pool around a new 185,000-square-foot Costco warehouse. The project broke ground on Sept. 18.

Nearly 25% of the units will be dedicated to low-income housing by the developer Thrive Living. The rest of the units “will be offered as non-subsidized affordable and workforce housing.”

Not everyone loves the new project, with one X user nicknaming it “Costco Prison” in a scathing critical post.

The Guarantors, a rental-focused company, explained the “pro” case for the development:

“With a Costco on-site, residents have quick access to the store's affordable prices on groceries, gas, medications, and other staples. This can provide meaningful savings compared to shopping at smaller markets.

“At its core, the Costco Apartments model aims to enhance quality of life for residents by making the essentials of everyday living convenient and accessible. This creates a ‘live-work-play’ environment within a single development.”

📊 Stat of the Day

💵 75%: There have been eight monetary easing cycles (interest rate cuts) since 1982. Six of the eight times, the S&P 500 was priced higher 12 months after the first cut. Healthcare and consumer cycles performed very well during those cycles. Fed chair Jerome Powell made a half-percent rate cut last week to launch another cycle.
