✈️ Are Passport Stamps a Dying Relic?

One of the simple joys of traveling to other countries is getting your passport stamped.

There’s something exciting about collecting stamps from other nations in the pages of that little book. But it seems like that may be destined to become a relic of the past.

Instead, they’ll “switch to a new digital Entry/Exit System (EES), which the European Union argues will accelerate border-control processes and improve security.”

By April 10, 2026, passport stamping will vanish in those 29 countries. Instead, your face and fingerprints will get scanned the first time you enter Europe. Your biometric data will be used to cross-reference your passport information, and future visits will only require a facial scan.

Australia, New Zealand and Singapore are just a few of the other countries that have already phased out passport stamps.

The tradeoff is that individuals who visit Europe frequently will potentially have a faster, more convenient way of entering those 29 countries.

The experiment with biometric data at borders is becoming more of a reality.
