YouGov’s anticipated annual retail brand research and rankings are live, and Amazon may have “won” this year.
Here are the 14 most recognizable brands in the United States listed by the share of the U.S. population that’s aware of the brand.
97%: Coca-Cola, Facebook, YouTube
96%: Amazon, Google, Nike, Samsung, McDonald’s
95%: Walmart, Apple, Toyota, Netflix
94%: iPhone, Ford
Now consider how well the top American brands are converting awareness to interest to sales.
Here are the top 5 brands in the United States that turn awareness into purchase consideration:
1. Amazon – 80%
2. YouTube – 68%
T3. Walmart – 63%
T3. Facebook – 63%
5. Amazon Prime – 61%
And here are the top 5 brands in the United States that turn purchase consideration into sales:
Purchase intent:
1. Amazon – 62%
2. Walmart – 38%
3. Amazon Prime – 34%

Compared to industry average, Americans were 243% more likely to consider Amazon once they become aware of the brand and are 539% more likely to purchase from Amazon once they’re considering it.
“It’s where you want to be as a brand,” said Reuben Staines, YouGov’s head of American marketing. “People’s initial reaction when they think about purchasing something is to go straight to Amazon.”
