šŖŖ REAL ID Deadline Looms Next Wednesday
Most of us use our driverās license as identification when we fly domestically.
However, if your license isnāt REAL ID-compliant, starting May 7, you wonāt be able to use it to fly.
This is the final stage of the Real ID Act, signed into law in 2005 on the recommendation of the 9/11 Commission.
A compliant REAL ID typically features a star in the top right corner, which can look different state-by-state. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) goes into detail on which licenses (and stars) are in compliance.
If youāre not in compliance and you attempt to use your driverās license to fly, starting one week from today, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents will turn you away at the security checkpoint.
Visit your local DMVās website or go to a physical location near you if you still need to update your license.
