10 Most Frequently Delayed U.S. Airports

Want to know how your local airport is doing? The 2025 USA Flight Disruption Report offers a clue.

Here are the 10 airports with the highest percentage of delayed flights last year.

  1. Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD): 28%

  2. Denver International Airport (DEN): 27%

  3. Miami International Airport (MIA): 26%

  4. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): 26%

  5. LaGuardia Airport (LGA): 26%

  6. Philadelphia International Airport (PHL): 26%

  7. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA): 26%

  8. John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK): 25%

  9. Orlando International Airport (MCO): 25%

  10. Washington Dulles Airport (IAD): 25%

If you’re flying from the East Coast – New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. – good luck. Chances are, at least one out of every four flights you take will be delayed.

Outside of the East Coast, some of the nation’s largest airports made the list, including Chicago, Denver, Miami and Orlando.

Congratulations to Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles, three airports consistently cited among the busiest in the United States, for avoiding this list. (Impressively, LAX finished third in most on-time departures at 80%.)

EWR in New Jersey ranked fourth on the list with 26% of its flights delayed. But it has also seen 2.7% of its flights canceled, making it the most disruptive overall, even ahead of ORD in Chicago.

The most disruptive route? Chicago to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in Germany (delayed 46% of the time).

No matter where you’re flying from, delays and cancellations are always a possibility. Weather, staffing shortages, mechanical issues and tight connections can disrupt even the most carefully planned trip. That’s why following Clark’s carry-on rule isn’t just about lost luggage — it’s about protecting yourself from the ripple effects of flight delays. If your travel plans go sideways, having your essentials within arm’s reach can turn a travel nightmare into a manageable inconvenience.
