Clark talks often about how expensive four-year degrees can be, especially from prestigious or brand-name universities.
That path isn’t for everyone, he says. And in many cases, it doesn’t make a lot of economic sense.
Whether you spend a few years at a community college before transferring to a state school to keep university costs down, or you attend a trade school, or you start a business or find a job that doesn’t require a degree, there are many alternative paths.
Speaking of jobs that don’t require a degree, Kiplinger recently highlighted the top 20 based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
Here are the top 10 based on median annual salary:
Airline and commercial pilot: $148,900
Information security analyst: $112,000
Elevator and escalator installer and repairer: $99,999
Special effects artist and animator: $98,950
Transportation, storage and distribution manager: $98,560
First-line supervisors of police and detective: $96,290
Radiation therapist: $89,530
Subway and streetcar operator: $88,260
Electrical power-line installer and repairer: $82,340
Dental hygienist: $81,400
