🍟 Do You Want Fries With That?

Fast food is a guilty pleasure for Clark Howard.

At last check, Clark keeps seven different fast food apps on his phone. He often professes his love for processed foods on his podcast, even though a health issue that surfaced years ago caused him to change his diet and lose 50 pounds.

The latest stats surfaced by Budget Branders and Chartr show that Clark is far from alone when it comes to fast food love:

  • The average American spends $1,200 a year on fast food.

  • 50 million Americans eat fast food on any given day.

  • Americans spend $200 billion annually on fast food.

  • 88% of the 25 largest fast-food chains in the world come from the United States, including the top 17.

  • The six largest public fast-food chains in the United States increased their trailing one-year revenue more than 30% from 2019 through the end of Q2.

  • Starbucks (+429 stores) added the most locations of any fast-food franchise in the last year, while Subway (-571 stores) has closed the most locations.

  • The average Chick-fil-A location does $6.7 million in annual revenue – the most of any of the 50 biggest fast-food restaurants despite being closed on Sundays.
