🇮🇹 Italian Village Willing To Give New Residents $30,000

Ah, Italy. Home of the best pasta and pizza. Bastion of fashion. A rich cultural history of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance. And known for its … housing subsidies to rescue crumbling small towns.

Come again?

For a long time, Sicilian towns have sold homes for the symbolic price of 1 euro ($1.08 in U.S. currency). Those prices don’t include the realtors fee or the deed. And they certainly don’t include the significant costs of necessary renovations to the often outdated or even dilapidated homes.

That’s right: the village is willing to give you $30,000 to move and buy property there. You can also get your rent covered up to 80% for two years if you’re young, and you can get up to $5,000 for three years to revitalize a business.

The homes in the town range from more than $50,000 to less than $120,000, with many needing renovations.

So far, the deal has increased the local population from 900 to 960 people.
