🎬 How Are Ads Working for Netflix?

More than three years ago, Netflix raised eyebrows throughout the streaming space when it introduced cheaper, ad-supported tiers.

The company revealed it made $1.5 billion in advertising revenue in 2025. Sounds like a big number – and it’s up more than double from 2024. But it’s still just 3.3% of the company’s revenue ($45.2 billion).

“Assuming the streamer had an average subscriber count of about 312.5 million throughout the year, the ~$1.5 billion works out to about $0.40 a month for every one of its global subscribers,” Sherwood said.

About 40% of Netflix’s user base subscribed to an ad-supported plan. So the amount of “ad revenue per user” is closer to $1 per month, accounting only for those paying for plans with ads.

Of course, that’s counting only money Netflix is getting paid directly from advertisers – not money that customers are paying to subscribe to the cheaper ad-supported tier.

Netflix currently offers three main price tiers in the United States: Premium (ad-free and 4K quality) for $24.99 per month, Standard (ad-free) for $17.99 per month and Standard with Ads for $7.99 per month.

📊 Stat of the Day

📺 -11%: Year-over-year change in the number of original streaming shows in 2025 (down to 584). HBO Max (-71%), Disney+ (-42%), Peacock (-35%) and Paramount+ (-35%) have led the push toward fewer original series premieres since 2022.
