The success of Google Flights has encouraged Google to extend the price-tracking portion of the tool to hotels as well.

Instead of broad pricing insights, after searching for a hotel, you can now track prices for your selected dates. You’ll get email notifications if rates change.

Flight price alerts are a standard part of searching for the best prices on airfare. But AFAR called it the first widely available equivalent for tracking hotel rates at the property level.

To use the tool:

Search for the city plus your travel dates (i.e., “New York City hotels August 1-6”) … or navigate to the “Hotels” tab at google.com/travel.

Click on a specific property within the Google Maps listing.

Look for the information box labeled “Track this hotel” and “Get emails about price changes,” and click to toggle it on.

Watch your email inbox for automatic alerts.

You can track multiple hotels for the same trip.

The tool is new, so we’ll see how effective it is. But Clark constantly emphasizes how important it is to comparison shop. And he loves reminding everyone to book refundable hotel reservations so you can rebook if you find a better deal.
