🥩 George Foreman Grill Still Selling Strong After 30 Years
Trivia question: Who won the world heavyweight boxing title in 1973 in a stunning upset by knocking out an undefeated Joe Frazier?
Stumped? Here’s another hint. This boxer turned entrepreneur sold his name and face for a highly successful grill.
Yes, that’s right, I’m talking about George Foreman – and the George Foreman Grill. The grill made its debut 30 years ago. It previously existed without much success prior to taking on the champ’s name in 1994.
Even with Foreman’s name, it took an impromptu hamburger bite by Foreman during a live QVC segment on TV for the product to go 1990s viral.
The grill generated $300 million in revenue in 2000. That’s nearly $550 million in today’s dollars. But 24 years after that, it’s still going strong, and in a kitchen segment where fads often come and go in the matter of a year or two.
Here are the estimated sales of grills on Amazon in June 2024 by units sold.
George Foreman 4-serving grill: 6,000+
Gas One portable charcoal grill: 5,000+
Char-Broil portable propane grill: 4,000+
Ninja indoor grill: 2,000+
Weber original kettle grill: 2,000+
Cuisinart griddler: 2,000+
