Love a decent steak at an affordable price? Youâre not alone.
According to a recent Cheesecake Factory presentation, the average check at Texas Roadhouse is just $22. LongHorn Steakhouse wasnât much more expensive at $26 a person.
âAffordable luxury,â as CNN calls it, is a hit at the moment. In the first quarter, Texas Roadhouse locations did 8.4% more sales year-over-year. Longhorn Steakhouse locations notched a +4% mark.
Thatâs during a period when, as CNN reports, âAmericans curtail retail spending and plan to shell out less for vacations this summer. Most restaurant chains are feeling the heat, with even McDonaldâs reporting that lower-income customers are pulling back.â
As other restaurants and fast food chains have raised prices over and over during this period of prolonged higher-than-normal inflation, the two affordable meat-and-potatoes chains âhave been trying to raise prices below inflationâ and âconsistently earn top marks on the American Customer Satisfaction Index.â
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as CNN pointed out, beef steaks have gone up 5.7% in price year-over-year through the end of May. Perhaps propping up the value of Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn Steakhouse even more.
