✈️ U.S., U.K. Work Toward More Efficient Security

If you’ve flown from the United States to the United Kingdom on a connecting flight in the last several decades, you’ve gone through the hassle.

  1. Clear customs.

  2. Pick up your checked luggage.

  3. Navigate to a recheck station.

  4. If you fail to make your bag check cutoff time, rebook your checked luggage on a later flight.

  5. Go through security again.

  6. Find and board your connecting flight.

However, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the U.K. Department for Transport (DfT) are running a pilot program on American Airlines flights from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

Named One-Stop Security (OSS) – so many acronyms – it will prescreen passengers and their checked luggage at the original departing airport. Those passengers will go straight to their connecting flight without needing to go through security double jeopardy.

OSS could expand to passengers traveling in the opposite direction (or perhaps to other airlines and airports).

Here’s to more convenient international travel.
