Fred in Minnesota asks:
"Clark, my family is long overdue for new mattresses, but the cost and fear of making a bad choice have us stressed out. Where do you buy yours?"

Clark's answer: Fred, you got one guess where we bought our last mattress? Ding, ding, ding — Costco! We bought ours there because you have the right to return it for a full refund. That’s the key. Any "sleep right" guarantee that just gives you a store credit towards something else isn't useful.

Whether you buy from Costco like we did or somewhere else, buy only from places that offer a full refund, usually within three months. Costco actually has no time limit, but three months is plenty of time to know if a mattress is right for you.

The giant monster mega banks are paying an insulting 0.01% on savings accounts, effectively giving you zero return on your hard-earned cash. If you are sitting on savings at a mega-bank, you are losing out – Clark says your goal should be earning 4.5% or higher. Meanwhile, the housing market is seeing massive shifts as 30-year mortgage rates hit 7%, crushed by geopolitical instability and inflation. However, if you are looking to buy, there is a clear silver lining: high rates have stalled the market, forcing sellers into price cuts and capitulation. If you can afford the monthly payment, buying at a significantly lower purchase price now and refinancing down the road when rates drop is an enormous long-term advantage.
